As the temperature drops, you are invited to join “Bonfire” – a solo exhibition by Dublin-based Irish illustrator and printmaker Conor Nolan. Halloween, originating from the Celtic celebration that marks the end of the harvest and the arrival of cold weather, as well as the night when the dead are allowed to live alongside the living, in Ireland means more than just dressing up and going trick or treating – it also means bonfires. Inspired by the tradition of collecting wood and gathering around the fire to wither away the evil spirits, the showcase captures the mischievous atmosphere of Halloween through visuals that bring back the bittersweet childhood memories of the festivities, where nostalgia meets the eeriness of All Hallow’s Eve.

After graduating from Irelands’ National College of Art and Design, Conor was invited to participate in Facebook’s AIR programme, and then continued to work with clients such as Facebook, Belfast City Council, Jameson, Beck’s and many more. You can spot Conor’s work through bold shapes, inky lines and bright, limited colour palettes inspired by the aesthetics of different analogue printmaking techniques like screen printing, risography and collage. His illustrations are slice of life stories featuring oversized Dubliners in muted colours, rocking a scarf and an occasional lumber jacket in anticipation of the gloomy coastal town’s weather. In his spare time, Conor makes zines about grief and dog-walking, as well as prints tees for those who despise running – and equally dislike Mondays.
